What is an Interlocking Jigsaw Mat?

Quite simply, an interlocking jigsaw mat is a single mat or set of mats used in sports such as martial arts and gymnastics training to absorb the impact from falls and the like. These mats are made from EVA foam, an expandable foam which can help take the impact off joints while jumping or from falls. An interlocking jigsaw mat employs a jigsaw system which allows the mats to securely lock into each other.

Available in three different thicknesses – 20mm, 30mm and 40mm – and in a 1m x 1m size, these mats are perfect for any sized room. Our 20mm mats are often used for activities where there is less muscle fatigue, and minimal jumping and falling. Should your activities involve more chance of falling or impact, our 30mm mat would be suitable. These are used for activities where there is potential for a light fall. For activities where falling and rolling on the mats is part of the practice, such as judo, MMA and jiu jitsu, our 40mm mat is recommend.

Essentially – as the intensity of the exercise or activity increases (including the potential for impacts and falls) so to should the thickness of your interlocking jigsaw mat.
